Looney Tunes (DC)#54, July 1999: "Rumble on the Red Planet"

Marvin the Martian and the Tasmanian Devil have a lot in common. Both starred in only a handful of classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts, and in those, both characters always appeared alongside Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck. Both gained popularity in the 90's due to years of TV reruns, and both eventually spawned TV spinoffs.

Naturally, they were going to meet sooner or later. The first encounter came in an episode of "Taz Mania". The second was in a 1994 video game, "Taz: Escape From Mars". But the best, in my opinion, was this comic book story from 1999. The writer is Bill Matheny, and the artist is David Alvarez. Like the previous entry on this blog with Yosemite Sam going at it with Pete Puma, this is another story with an unconventional pairing that works with hilarious results!

  1. Check out the Sheriff of Nottingham, from “Rabbit Hood”, in the next to last panel! Just another reason why David Alvarez was so great!
